Auto Cross # 4 was another scorcher at Bennett Raceway. It was so hot that some Windy City Members claimed they could hear the corn popping in the fields. Now if they had stayed on the track, they wouldn't have been close enough to the corn to hear anything. We had 27 miatas with 29 drivers this day. Seven of us drove Utica for the first time.
The track had been repaired since our last outing here in June, but another onslaught of big Chevys and Fords tore it up again. Parts of it are still narrower than last year, holding lap times down.
Sal's supercharged miata still set the fastest times, but those of you with stock cars should check out Jason Powell's times. He was little more than a second slower on street tires. Granted, they're probably the best street tires around, Dunlop SP8000's, and Jason's car is a 133 HP '96, but it still takes exceptional skill in any miata to approach or beat the 60 second barrier.
